Psalm 78:5-6 “He established a decree in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children; that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and rise up and tell them to their children.”

As I begin another week of school I lift up the kids that are homeschooled around the nation and the world.  I also lift up the children that are sent to schools outside of their homes around this nation and the world.  I lift the kids that are not sent to school or not allowed to be schooled for whatever reason and I lift the kids that are too sick to go to any kind of school.  These children are the same children this passage is talking about.  The decree of Jacob, the appointed law of Israel is for all of God’s children.  It was for our ancestors and has been handed down through the generations in hopes that we and our children would be better able to keep them.  The hope would be that we would learn them well and our children even better so that our hearts would be steadfast in the Lord.  From bible times to now, we all still struggle with our faithfulness to the Lord but today is a new day and I am encouraged as each of us chooses to read the Word and strives to live it.

Lord,
Strengthen our hearts and our minds as we delve into your Word and your decrees.  Help us live as you have taught us so that we are teachers to others.  Help us learn to love and be faithful in our love to you.   Amen.
