Luke 8:16 “No one after lighting a lamp hides it under a jar, or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.”

Light brings warmth to our world and our human eyes need light to see.  We are not built to see in the dark and when we try to make our way in darkness we tend to stumble and fall.  During the day we have the sun that brings light and warmth.  We can see very easily with it glowing so brightly in our sky.  At night we have the moon and stars that give glimmers of light and we have lamps we light to bring warmth and brightness to us.  People are drawn to light.  When we see the warm glow of light, we feel safe.  We do not like to stumble in darkness.  This verse calls us to be a lamp on a lampstand.  Let the light of God shine brightly through you and place your glowing light in plain view to light the way for others.  Lamps need oil or energy to continue to burn and so does our soul’s light.  We need to renew and replenish our energy source by spending time with the Lord so that He can fill us up again and we can continue to shine brightly.  Don’t hide your light under a bushel and don’t let Satan blow it out.  Let’s go out into the world and let our light shine!

Lord,
You are God of light and love.  You fill us with both and we are called to spread those gifts to the world around us.  Cleanse us so that we sparkle and your light can shine brightly through us.  Let your light bring love and warmth through us to those who are in need of it.  I am simply the lamp; you are the Light of the world.  All praise and honor are yours forever.  Amen.
