Corinthians 4:7-9 “But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be
made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from
us. We are afflicted in every way, but
not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not
forsaken; struck down but not destroyed;”
When I
picture jars of clay I see brown earth colored pots that crumble and break so
easily. Once the potter has put them in the
kiln and fired them they are stronger and much sturdier. Sometimes they are glazed or painted to look
more beautiful to the eye and then they are fired in the kiln again. Regardless of the decoration on the outside
of the pot, it is as useful as it was before it was decorated. We are jars of clay made by the potter. It is only through the Spirit of God that we
can serve well in His kingdom. It is
through His grace and mercy that we provide grace and mercy to others. It is through His words that we are able to
proclaim His message to others. The
struggles and weaknesses we endure serve to remind us that it is not us, but
Him that works through us. He will not
allow us to be crushed, brought to despair, forsaken or destroyed. He renews us and we persevere so that His
glory shines on. There is joy in this
passage, let us all be vessels of Light and Love and spread that joy to others.
Lord,
Take this
vessel and use it to your glory. I am
yours and you are mine. Help all that I
do and say, all that I think and pray glorify your holy name. Amen.
