Joel 2:26 “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you.  And my people shall never again be put to shame.”

Most of us live in a world of abundance.  There is an abundance of food; we do not wonder where our next meal will come from.  There is an abundance of water; we turn a faucet and hot or cold water comes to us in an instant.  There is an abundance of noise; TV, cars, music, the chatter in our own heads.  This passage of Joel speaks to the nation of Israel being restored to the Lord.  They had experienced desolation and destruction and He calls them back to blessing and restoration.  He calls us all back to blessing and restoration.  When I read this passage I see two levels of blessings.  He provides for our daily needs; food, water and shelter.  He also provides for our spiritual needs; food, water and shelter.  His word feeds our souls, His Spirit pours out on us like refreshing water, and His redemption is a shelter for our souls to protect us from what lurks outside.  He gives us all these blessings if only we will receive them.  He has, indeed, dealt wondrously with us.  Let us praise the name of the Lord!

Lord,
Your name is above all others Almighty God.  Thank you for all you give to us each day, open our hearts and souls that we will receive the blessings you pour out for us.  Lift our voices in praise and song for the abundance you give and open our hands that we may share this abundance with others.  Amen.
