John 1:11-12 “He came to what was his own, and
his own people did not accept him. But
to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become
children of God”
It is hard for me to wrap my mind around being
rejected like this. I come from a family
that embraces each other regardless of how and who we are. We do not agree on everything or believe all
of the same things yet we love each other because of and despite these
differences. We know we are cut from the
same cloth and we bring beauty to the quilt with our various colors and
textures. The Word, The Christ came to
be with his own and he was rejected by most.
He was not invited to their tables for meals or to the family gatherings
to share in the fellowship. He was not
invited to share his thoughts and insights but he was pushed away as an
outcast. I am so grateful that some
treasured few heard and listened. I am
thankful that John writes these words for us to ponder and embrace. Our creator came to us; he came to bring love
and grace, guidance and redemption. If
we open our hearts to him, we become more like him. We grow in him and become true children of
God.
Lord,
Your word teaches us that you created all
things. All people are your children but
not all of you children acknowledge you.
Soften our hearts and open our eyes to finally accept you and see you in
truth. Guide our steps as we learn and
grow into the children you created us to be.
Amen.
